About Us
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra https://khunti.kvk4.in/district-profile.php (Farm Science Centre), an innovative science-based institution was established to accelerate agricultural production and also to improve the socio-economic conditions of the farming community of a particular district. KVK was designed to impart the latest knowledge to the farmers through work experiences by applying the principles of “Teaching by Doing and Learning by Doing”. KVK aims to accelerate agricultural production and allied activities to improve the economic status of the agrarian community.
This KVK is under administrative control of ICAR-National Institute of Secondary Agriculture, Ranchi, Jharkhand https://nisa.icar.gov.in formerly known as ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums. KVK, Khunti is the 23rd KVK of Jharkhand. The total area of the instructional farm of KVK is 49.19 acres. This KVK comes under ICAR-ATARI Patna https://ataripatna.icar.gov.in Zone-IV
Objective:
- To identify the area-specific problems of the farmers and prioritization the identified problems as per their importance.
- To collect feedback from farmers and extension agencies and to provide linkages with scientists for the modification or refinement of technology.
- To demonstrate the new improved technology to the farmers as well as to the extension agency directly in the farmer's field with their active participation.
- To impart training to the practising farmers, rural youth and extension functionaries for capacity building.
- To provide new and important information on agriculture and allied sectors to the extension agencies or NGOs for wider circulation to improve their economic condition.
- To prepare different extension models and verify these models in the farmer's field with their participation to create confidence among them.

Mandate:
- Technology Assessment and Demonstration for its Application and Capacity Development.
Activities:
- On-farm testing to assess the location-specific agricultural technologies under various farming systems.
- Frontline demonstrations to establish the production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields.
- Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies.
- To work as a Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sectors in improving the agricultural economy of the district.
- Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers.
- In addition, KVKs produce quality technological products (seed, planting material, bio-agents, and livestock) and make them available to farmers.
